Author Interview with Omegia Keeys

Today Authors By Authors welcomes Omegia Keeys, author of Seduction.com, as part of the Authors Supporting Authors Virtual Book Tour...

What are your Favorite Genre(s) to read in and why?
I love fiction novels that have a little bit of a twist, and some fantasy as well.  The fantasy happened upon me by chance.  My mom bought me a book called Glom Gloom when for my 15th birthday and I was so mad I didn't read it until I was grounded a few months later.  Come to find out the book was great and she stuck a $100 bill at the end of it.

What is your Favorite Author in that Genre and Why? Also, please tell us about the best book by that author you have read.
Eric Jerome Dickey because his books always have twists and chaos which keeps me wanting more.  The best book I read from him has to be Pleasure.  Pleasure is about a woman subcoming to her desires but come to find out there is a such thing as too much pleasure.

Do you have a favorite Book of All Time? Of course, please tell us why this is your favorite book.
I have two The Color Purple and the Coldest Winter Ever.  Two different styles of writing but these authors are phenominal.

What is the best book you read last month, and would you recommend it to a friend?
I actually picked up Prince's Donor by Sindee Lynn who is also under the same publisher as me and why I picked it up.  The book was excellent.  I would definitly say it is a must read.

If pressed, could you chose a favorite from the books you have written, and don’t forget to explain to us why?
Seduction.com because this is were I let loose and freed myself as an author.  I was not scared to hold back in writing my characters.  I really let them speak.

Tell us how you become inspired to write.
I have been a writer ever since I can remember.  I was inspired in the begining by my large family and the things we did to entertain ourselves in the long cold winters.

Share with us something we would not have thought to ask about.
I chose to step out and become a writer because I wanted to try something unexpected of me.  Yes I have been writing for a while but no one ever knew it.  Everyone sees me as a military lifer but that is not my passion.

Author Interview with Sindee Lynn, Author of "Prince's Donor"

What are your Favorite Genre(s) to read in and why?

1. I love reading vampire romance. I have always been fascinated by vampires ever since reading Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire I have been hooked. When they began showing up in my romance novels it was the best of both worlds.

What is your Favorite Author in that Genre and Why? Also, please tell us about the best book by that author you have read.

2. I actually have two favorite authors of vampire romance: Sherrilyn Kenyon and Christine Feehan. They have two of the hottest vampire series I have ever read and the worlds they have created for their books are nothing short of extra-ordinary. I also like them because I know no matter what book I pick up from them is going to be good. From the first word on the page to the time when you close the book I am completely emerged in their world. That’s what I want my readers to experience with my books.

Do you have a favorite Book of All Time?

3. I would be hard pressed to name just one favorite book. I’m pretty much a sucker for anything that has vampires and werewolves and other shifters in it.

What is the best book you read last month, and would you recommend it to a friend?

4. Its sad to say I haven’t actually been able to pick up a book in the last few months that has not been mine and only then in another attempt to revise or fix yet one more thing I find I don’t like. But I’m one of those people who can go to the bookstore and walk around for hours on end so I have plenty to choose from when I get some free time.

If pressed, could you chose a favorite from the books you have written?

5. It might seem odd but my favorite book is actually one that has not been published yet…lol…. I have been in the revising process for the last several weeks in between working on my next book in the Donor Series. It’s called Loving a De’Tagglio Man. It’s an interracial romance about a plus sized African American female who has been fighting her feelings for the past several years for her best friend’s younger brother and she’s done running. Be looking out for it.

Tell us how you become inspired to write.

6. Writing is my true passion in life but I will admit there are times when I go days without sitting down at my computer to type one thing. Those times usually come when I’m really busy with work or my daughter so I have learned not to stress about that because when I get back at it I spend a lot of time writing and often work into the night. So I guess I don’t so much find inspiration to write as it finds me. I miss it when I’ve been away and it’s like greeting an old friend when I sit back down.

Share with us something we would not have thought to ask about.

7. When I got my publishing offer with Passionate Writers I was actually at the point where I was about to reconsider if this was for me. But I had a really good friend who refused to let me give up and she convinced me to send my book in to just one more publishing company and I struck gold. So I want to tell all of the other aspiring writers never give up on what you love doing because it will pay off. Surround yourself with people who will be there to support you in this crazy business. If they didn’t laugh when you told them you wanted to write romance novels for a living they are a keeper… lol.

Sindee Lynn
Author Bio:
My name is Sindee Lynn and I have known I wanted to be a writer since the old age of 13. Growing up my love of reading was nourished by my aunt who used to bring me bags of Harlequin Romance novels when she came to visit- back then they had the almost cartoonlike characters on them. Living in a small town where you had to have a car to get from point A to point B reading was my escape. And man did I become a world class traveler. By the time I turned 14 I had been to Italy, France, several Mediterranean Islands and to almost every state in the US and Canada. Those books are still at my childhood home today on a shelf my uncle had to build for them because he was tired of them being all over the house... lol. Today I work full time and am the single parent of a very active teenager, which means I don’t have much free time for me but the time I do have I spend on my writing. And all those sleepless nights finally paid off when I got my first publishing deal for Prince's Donor.

Prince’s Donor Book Blurb:
Four years ago Jenna James signed up for the donor database with fanciful thoughts of lying in the arms of a vampire. Now four years later, she finds herself wishing she had never heard it. How depressing is it to think not even a vampire will have sex with you to survive? Feeling lower than she has in ages, Jenna is convinced she’s finally ready to remove her name from the list. That is until she opens her door to find her fantasy standing on the other side.
Syrian Roskonovich is next in line to be the king of vampires. But nothing in his years of training could have prepared him for the betrayal of his blood brother and his donor. It’s been months since he’s properly fed, living only on the synthetic blood his people create when he finds himself in a strange city holding on to his sanity by a thread. His only hope is in the database he helped bring to life but has failed him in the past.

My Review of "Lucky Mr. M" by Jasmine Aherne

I have had this author on my TBR list for some time, and I was not disappointed once I finally got to reading one of her stories.

Lucky Mr. M by Jasmine Aherne

Lightly Erotic Contemporary Romance, part of Pink Petal Books' playtime line
novella (about 20,000 words)
ISBN# 9780982678466
BLURB:
Lorna’s never been good at exploring her own desires, let alone pleasuring herself. So when the opportunity to try a sex toy arises, her friends persuade her to purchase a “Mr Mammoth” vibrator. Little does Lorna know, her new friend Mr M will bring her closer not only to herself, but also to the prospect of romance…

My Review:

This story was sexy little read which caught and captured my attention from the start. Never before have I seen an inanimate object become such a pivotal character! I became easily attached to the main character, Lorna's and the "issues" in her life. In fact, I started reading this story prior to a favorite show, and I found myself still reading it during the commercials! I was hooked! I was rooting for her! And, I had to know what happened next! I found it an interesting take on a woman's journey to embrace her own sexuality with a few hot twists.

I thought the author did a nice job of spicing up the sex scenes with not only vivid descriptions, but with a strong emotional element as well. This author's back list is going on my TBR list.

I highly recommend this quite unique romance. May it bring you sweet dreams, scorching fantasies and maybe a few sultry ideas :)

Friday Favorites with Denise Verrico

Favorite Genre(s):
Historical fiction and fantasy/sci fi of various subgenres, but I read everything from manga to Literary fiction

Favorite Author in that Genre and Why?:
Robert Graves and Mary Renault.  They wrote very accessible stories about life in the ancient world and created such memorable characters.  In my own genre, I like Anne Rice the best, because of the rich details, literary references, character development and the dark mood.

List of at least 5 Favorite Books in that Genre:
I Claudius, Claudius the God, The Persian Boy, Funeral Games in historical and in vampire novels, Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat, I Am Legend.

Favorite Book of All Time: To Kill a Mockingbird

Favorite Book Read Last Month: The Vampire Armand

Favorite Book You Wrote and Why?:
The one I’m working on now, Fearful Symmetry, Book Three of the Immortyl Revolution.  It’s going through my critique group and I’m doing re-writes.  This one is just so much fun.  I’m writing from the POV of a rather irreverent male vampire named Cedric MacKinnon.  He’s a pretty boy and a bit taken with himself, but he’s got a deeper side that makes him irresistible.  He’s an adept of the ancient arts (Immortyl temple dancer/courtesan), so it’s sexier than the other books.  The story is set in India at the court of the Chief Elder of the Immortyls.  It deals a lot with tantrism and mythology.  I love doing the research.  There’s lots of intrigue and politics.  Even though it has a contemporary setting, it deals with an ancient culture.   It’s like writing high fantasy with vampires.

Please feel free to add any other list or question that has to do with a “favorite” and “book”!
My favorite Fantasy Books, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Mists of Avalon
YA Fantasy-Harry Potter series
Favorite Graphic novels-Watchmen, Death Note
Favorite Thrillers, Silence of the Lambs, Dexter series
Favorite Sci Fi books- All of Ursula K. Le Guinn
Favorite Classics-Pride and Prejudice, David Copperfield

Interview With Belinda McBride

Kiki: What is your favorite genre to read in, and what is it about that genre that attracts you to it? If you like a specific mix of genres, please state that particular combination.

Belinda: Wow, I like an awful lot of genres, but I probably have to go with urban fantasy as my favorite at the time. I do like mix ups, like a combination of sci fi and shape shifters. I suppose its because once you throw reality out the window, why worry about rules? Since I read for entertainment, and to escape reality, my preferences usually have little to do with the real world.

Kiki: What is your favorite author to read in that genre, and why? Also, please tell me a little about the best book by that author you have read.

Belinda: I don’t have any hard and fast single favorite. Right now, I’m enjoying so many authors: Charlaine Harris, Marjorie Liu, Patricia Briggs, Laurell K Hamilton, and so forth. As to favorite books, I adored the Harper Connelly series as a whole, Ms Harris did such a beautiful job with those books.

Kiki: Do you have a Favorite Book of All Time? Of course, please tell us what about that book makes it your favorite.

Belinda: Actually, I have two favorite books of all time, and since they’re linked, I’m going to mention them both. The first is “These Old Shades” by Georgette Heyer. Justin, the Duke of Avon was written as an almost lascivious character, and was probably the prototype for many anti-heroes. There is so much suggested in that book…And of course, Justin’s son in the book ‘Devil’s Cub’ followed up that grand and slightly wicked anti-hero. Both men are self-indulgent to a fault, and nearly amoral, but when they love, they are dangerous to anyone who threatens that.

Kiki: What is the best book you read last month, and would you recommend it to a friend?

Belinda: Last month is was ‘Silver Borne’ by Patricia Briggs. And of course I’d recommend it to a friend!

Kiki: What are your reading habits like? For example, how many books do you read on average in a week, what format do you prefer to read in, what time of day do you read, and what setting is ideal for you to get lost in that book?

Belinda: I don’t have any set reading habits. When I’m working on a deadline or just in the groove, I don’t take much reading time until I’m finished. Otherwise, I read when I can, which might be bedtime, or when I’ve got care of my niece Kjirsten. (She’s disabled and needs the constant presence of a caregiver.) I read any format, and am currently wildly in love with my Nook. Since I’ve been a voracious reader all my life, any setting is ideal. I’ll go through an average size paperback at the rate of one a day if I have time.

Kiki: If pressed, could you chose a favorite from the books you have written? Why is it your favorite?

Belinda: Wow, it’s a toss-up between ‘Belle Starr’ and ‘An Uncommon Whore.’ They’re set in the same fictional universe, but the chemistry of the two books is so different. Both books have strong protagonists that just grabbed me and carried me along. Both Belle and Helios had a lot to say, and really just cracked me up with their attitudes.

Kiki: How do you become inspired to write?

Belinda: Well, the thing with writing is that you have to approach it as a job. Inspiration certainly plays into it, but it’s more about discipline. I use inspiration to give me ideas and plots. When I sit down to write, that’s my job. If I allow my inspiration to plot the course, then I can write whether I feel like it or not. If I wait to become inspired to write, then not much would get done.

Don’t get me wrong, there are times that I just feel like I’m on fire to write, and that’s wonderful. But there are times when weeks will pass and I don’t really feel the desire to write. So those are the days I sit down and approach it with a no nonsense attitude. My earlier inspiration has given me the blueprint, so I won’t get hung up or blocked.

Kiki: What part of the story do you think is your strength to write?

Belinda: That’s a question that I grapple with often. Sometimes I think my strength is in my action scenes, other times I think it’s my world building. I really don’t know. Judging by the feedback I get from readers, my stories carry an emotional impact. Maybe that’s it. In the actual context of the manuscript, I’m pretty good at kicking the book into high gear right off the bat. I hate slow openings with lots of back story. I like to get engaged, and then show the exposition throughout the story.

Kiki: Please share with ABA readers something I did not think to ask you about.

Belinda: Sometimes stories come to me from the oddest of places. I was inspired to write ‘Black Planet: Dragon’s Blood’ when I was donating blood. Other times, I see a scenario being played out in real life, and my imagination just grabs it and runs. I rarely just sit down and concoct a story. However, that does happen on occasion. ‘An Uncommon Whore’ was like that, I just sat down and wrote it without any ideas of who or what I was dealing with. I don’t think that writing will every become stale or boring for me!

Award, Contest, or Something Like That?

Seems that author Cassidy Hunter has just nominated me for the Lesa’s Bald Faced Liar, sorry make that the
Creative Writer” Blogger Award. And now, well just bear with me a minute while I figure it all out…

First off,  I now must exact this same torture upon seven other writers.  But, and here is where I get really creative, I don’t think I can tick off that many people in one day, so I am choosing only four! LMAO
So, the seven no four lucky authors who will no longer be friends with me after today are…
  1. 1. Emma Hillman http://emmahillmanbooks.blogspot.com
  2. 2. Jenna Alexander http://coffeefuelederotica.blogspot.com/
  3. 3. BK Walker http://bkwalkerbooksetc.blogspot.com/
  4. 4. Arlene Webb http://arlenewebb.blogspot.com/
  5. 5. I am not putting a name here.
  6. 6. And, I am not putting a name here either.
  7. 7. You got it, no name going here either!

Second, I post seven statements: one truth and six lies, or six lies and one truth.  Apparently, which version they are is your job, poor blog reader, to figure out.   And I tell you what, all who get them right will win something.  I would tell you what, but you would just call me a liar anyway! So, you will just have to take your changes.  If you are right, we shall haggle out the details of the prize. I promise, there will be one! Like maybe the book of your choice.
So are the following statements one truth and six lies, or six lies and one truth? That is all you can say though, no comments to give away the truth of the matter, my friends and family! Oh, and my parents, brother and husband are not allowed near this thing - no commenting guys!

  1. 1. When I was in grade school my ankle was fractured when a drunk man stepped on it.
  2. 2. When I was in high school, the bleachers I was on closed up and my leg was broken.
  3. 3. When I was thirty-seven years old, three tendons pulled away from my ankle bone when I stepped on a trampoline.
  4. 4. I am a paranormal, erotic romance writer.
  5. 5. My brother made the Floam, Hercules Hooks, Snuggie,  Perfect Brownie Pan and Urine Gone commercials.
  6. 6. One of my favorite snacks as a child used to be Heinz ketchup on American cheese slices with a side of pickles.
  7. 7. Now, one of my favorite snacks is shrimp dip on carrots and cauliflower with a side of Colby cheese.

Well, go ahead, comment! I dare you!
Winners will be contacted Sunday, but only if you include an email with your comment. I mean this contest is hard enough right?

Hugs,
Kiki

My Interview with Susan Hanniford Crowley

Kiki: What is your favorite genre to read in, and what is it about that genre that attracts you to it? If you like a specific mix of genres, please state that particular combination.

Susan:  Paranormal romance is my favorite genre, because by Romance Writers of America definition it includes science fiction and fantasy as well as romances with supernaturals: vampires, werewolves, Telkhines, Harmonies, etc.

Kiki: What is your favorite author to read in that genre, and why? Also, please tell me a little about the best book by that author you have read.

Susan: Charlaine Harris (author of the Sookie Stackhouse books on which True Blood is based) because her paranormal characters are in the everyday world.  My favorite is DEAD TO THE WORLD, because it focuses on Vampire Eric.

Kiki: Do you have a Favorite Book of All Time?

Susan:  I used to but right now I don’t.  Among my favorites is AEQUITAS I BETRAYAL, a book by a brand new urban fantasist a.c. Mason.  http://acmason.com

Kiki: What is the best book you read last month, and would you recommend it to a friend?

Susan:  ONCE BITTEN, TWICE DEAD by Bianca D’arc is a fast, past story of a cop and the cute special forces officer that she joins forces with to fight zombies.  It’s absolutely riveting and exciting.

Kiki: What are your reading habits like? For example, how many books do you read on average in a week, what format do you prefer to read in, what time of day do you read, and what setting is ideal for you to get lost in that book?

Susan:  When my editor sends me back edits for my next book, my reading stops.  Normally I can read up to eight books in a week.  Once you have a publishing contract, you have to write.  Right now, I have four novellas and two novels I’m working on, one right after another.

Kiki: If pressed, could you chose a favorite from the books you have written? Why is it your favorite?

Susan:  THE STORMY LOVE LIFE OF LAURA CORDELAIS, because it is the book of my heart.  I wasn’t planning to write a vampire/supernatural romance but the characters stayed in my dreams until I wrote their story.  I love Laura’s crisis and how each of us can understand her because everyone has reached crisis point.  Most of us wouldn’t have handled it the way Laura did at least I hope not, but even though she did, her story gives a lot of hope.  I love David, the vampire who loves her, oh… let me count the ways. LOL.  David has such fathomless dark eyes.

Kiki: How do you become inspired to write?

Susan:  I keep a dream journal.  I write every day.  I live life.

Kiki: What part of the story do you think is your strength to write?

Susan:  I have over 25 years of vampire research, and I love researching obscure mythology.  I love romance, the kind that touches the heart and gives you shivers.

Kiki: When did THE STORMY LOVE LIFE OF LAURA CORDELAIS become part of a series?

Susan:  My characters have relatives and friends and that let to spin-offs like WHEN LOVE SURVIVES and A VAMPIRE FOR CHRISTMAS.  It especially led to the development of the Arnhem Society, a secret society of vampires in New York City, and the Arnhem Knights.

My Review Of "Devon Falls 4: Haunting Magic" by Raine Delight

Raine has created a great world with her Devon Falls series, the town, the families, l found very intriguing diving in to the fourth book in the series first.  I enjoyed this short read, this quick fiery romance.  My only complaint is in the length.  I wanted a lot more of the characters, wanted the build up to continue, wanted more of the conflict, etc.  I am saying all of this as a compliment to the writer, I hope you understand.  Wanting more means I really liked what was there.  So, I am excited that there are more in the series for me to read.  While I was really intrigued by the book when I interviewed Raine, I am going to have to back up and start at number one.  What a concept right? LOL

In particular for this tale though, I must say that I like stories where an auspicious, mystical element draws together two who are fated, but seemed to have not heeded the call for some time.  It adds such an element of tension to the relationship in addition to the base conflicts.

My recommendation, visit Devon Falls.  I know I am going to.

My Interview with Author, Raine Delight

Kiki: What is your favorite genre to read in, and what is it about that genre that attracts you to it? If you like a specific mix of genres, please state that particular combination.

Raine Answers: Lately I have been reading a ton of Urban Fantasy/Paranormal mixes as well as Fantasy. Between Joss Ware, Gail Z. Martin, Jim Butcher and many, many more, my reading lists and bookcases are filling up quickly. J

Kiki: What is your favorite author to read in that genre, and why? Also, please tell me a little about the best book by that author you have read.

Raine Answers: My favorite, huh? Well that is so very hard to do since I have many favorites. I think at the moment it is a toss up between Bertrice Small’s Hetra Series and Kim Harrison’s Hollows. Both I love and can read multiply time and still am affected in the same spots. J

The best book-well Bertrice Small has a series through harlequin’s LUNA line called Hetra and it is about a half-faerie woman who has to figure out her destiny amid the chaos of war, personal issues and more. Very well written and I highly recommend it especially as it also has some wonderful naughty bits in there to keep my blood humming hot!

Kiki: Do you have a Favorite Book of All Time? Of course, please tell us what about that book makes it your favorite.

Raine Answers: Oh man *shakes head*, you really are asking me what kid I prefer aren’t you? *laughs* Right now I don’t have just one book that is my favorite but many books. J

Kiki: What is the best book you read last month, and would you recommend it to a friend?

Raine Answers: Um *thinks* I totally can not remember. I read a TON of books a month and frankly for myself, there are too many wonderful books out there that were really good! Off the top of my head two come to mind- Viki Lyn’s Last Chance (Available at Loose Id Publishing) and Kayelle Allen’s At the Mercy of Her Pleasure (Loose ID Publishing). Both were awesome and really kept me intrigued till the very end.
Kiki: What are your reading habits like? For example, how many books do you read on average in a week, what format do you prefer to read in, what time of day do you read, and what setting is ideal for you to get lost in that book?

Raine Answers: I try to read when I can-either when I am waiting for the kids at dance class, doing laundry at Laundromat or in the evening if I don’t want to watch anything. I can read about a dozen books-Print and e-books- a week if I don’t have other commitments. I like both Print and E-books right now. Both formats give me what I desire and hey, I have over 50 e-books on my e-reader right now. That saves trees plus more room on the bookcase for more print books. LOL

Kiki: If pressed, could you choose a favorite from the books you have written? Why is it your favorite?

Raine Answers: Oh man, now you really are trying to have me tell you who my favorite kid is aren’t you? *sighs* Seriously, I can’t choose just one because whatever I am working on is my favorite at that moment. All depends on what the muse wants me to write at the moment.

Kiki: How do you become inspired to write?

Raine Answers: I listen to music or watch movies with Johnny Depp. It’s amazing what a good POTC movie will do to get my creative juices moving. *giggles*

Well add that to some really yummy eye candy as well *sighs dreamily* then you can say I am inspired. *Grins wickedly*

Kiki: What part of the story do you think is your strength to write?

Raine answers: I think my characters. They are strong with hints of vulnerabilities and just a little bit of me in them. J

Kiki: Please share with ABA readers something I did not think to ask you about.

Raine Answers: Well dang, you asked some really cool questions I never was asked before so I can’t think of anything. J
