"THE heavens PROCLAIM HIS GLORY, A Spectacular View of Creation Through the Lens of the Hubble Telescope" is such an interesting concept for a book, that I just had to read it. The beauty of this books pictures cannot be described, but have to be viewed. These amazing photos do their job of proclaiming the glory of God. And yet, they are perfectly matched in this book with quotes, scriptures, etc making this book an inspiration, as I believe the author set out to do.
Yet, beyond that, the book is also very enlightening. It is informative about the universe and the ways it can be observed. All of this information increased the purpose of this book for me. All of it, the pictures, the information, the quotes rolled into a big ball of amazing inspiration which took me away on a spiritual journey not to be missed. I was simply in awe.
Need that pick me up in life? Do you feel like you need a light lit under your spiritual fire? Or, do you just want to reveal in the majesty of all your Savior created? No matter what your situation or place in life, I think one can benefit from the gift this book has to offer.

Shirley Temple Storybook
“Babes in Toyland”
1960
Shirley appears with her own three children as the Storyteller of this classic tale. This luscious musical production is the familiar story of Jane and Alan running away from their wicked uncle and his three henchman to find adventure and safety with the Master Toymaker in the land of toys. Temple also appears as Floretta, the gypsy witch. Temple sings the wonderful Christmas classic song “Toyland” at the beginning of the program and the story culminates with the song performed again by the entire cast.
Special guests include: Jonathan Winters as Uncle Barnaby; Jerry Colonna as Gonzales; Joe Besser as Rodrigo; Carl Ballantine as Gonzorgo; Michel Petit as Alan; and, Angela Cartwright as Jane.
The Shop Around the Corner
1940 dir. Ernst Lubitsch
This timeless romance is broadcast every Christmas on television. This version is set in Hungary, where co-workers at a leather-goods store make each other miserable, bickering on the job. What antagonists Klara and Alfred don’t realize is that they have been falling in love with each other, corresponding through romantic letters they unknowingly exchange in response to a personals ad in the newspaper. Alfred begins to suspect that Klara may be his pen pal but keeps the knowledge to himself, not wanting to disappoint the woman he loves. The romance climaxes at Christmas, the store’s busiest time of the year.
The cast includes: Jimmy Stewart as Alfred; Margaret Sullavan as Klara; Frank Morgan as shop owner, Hugo Matuschek; and, Sara Haden as Flora.
The timelessness of this romantic comedy can be seen in its several successful remakes including 1949’s “In the Good Old Summertime” starring Judy Garland and 1998’s “You’ve Got Mail” starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
Shower of Stars
“A Christmas Carol”
1954
This Emmy award winning, live program features Fredric March as Scrooge and Basil Rathbone as Marley’s Ghost. This version of the story offers the highest of television production values, was originally televised in color, and includes brief musical entertainment throughout the story that freshens the familiar tale.
The story airs in a hour’s length, so Scrooge’s visit to his Christmases past eliminates his childhood to focus on the party at Fezziwig’s and Scrooge’s experience of Christmas Future includes a brief scene at the cemetery. But the spirit and emotion of the original story remains clear even if Scrooge’s motivations for his transformation are too brief.
If you look closely, you’ll recognize a very young Bonnie Franklin in long braids, playing the role of Cratchit’s daughter, Susan. Queenie Leonard plays Mrs. Cratchit—she played the same role in 1949’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ on TV as well. Though this originally aired in color, the remaining kinescopes are all in black-and-white. Master composer, Bernard Herrmann, was nominated for an Emmy for Best Original Music for his participation in this production.
Shrek the Halls
2007 dir. Gary Trousdale
The original voice cast from the Hollywood blockbuster movie series returns for this TV special. Shrek had never cared much for Christmas before but now he feels he wants to make Fiona and his children’s first Christmas a perfect one. The ogre follows all the descriptions in the book he buys about the perfect holiday but when Donkey and their friends show up on Christmas Eve, he is ill prepared to host his friends. After a loud, chaotic party Shrek loses his cool and throws his friends from his home. Unfortunately, Fiona and the children leave as well!
The best part of this TV special are the various adaptations of the story ‘The Night Before Christmas’ told from the unique perspectives of each of the characters, including Donkey, Puss in Boots, Gingy and eventually even Shrek’s version.
The voice cast includes: Mike Myers as Shrek; Eddie Murphy as Donkey; Cameron Diaz as Fiona; and, Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots.
See also: ‘Merry Madagascar’ for another Dreamworks animated TV special based on characters from their hit movies.
Sid the Science Kid
“Sid’s Holiday Adventure”
2009
Sid explains that in his house every year they celebrate three holidays: Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. The family usually spends their time in the backyard where its always sunny and warm. But this year, the family is going to celebrate the holidays with an aunt in Minnesota where its typically snowy and cold. So Sid asks the question: What’s the big idea with cold weather? In school he learns about temperature and thermometers.
Silent Mouse
1990 dir. Robin Crichton
This hour-long, live action TV special is narrated by actress Lynn Redgrave. It is the story of how Franz Gruber and Joseph Mohr wrote the song “Silent Night” for their Christmas Eve church service.
However, the song became popular throughout the region, Europe and eventually the rest of the world because of a special church mouse named Nonny. Nonny loved the song and shared it with other church mice in the region who incorrectly attributed the song to A Nonny Mouse (anonymous). That is, until the mistake was corrected and Gruber and Mohr were correctly identified.
Music in this special is provided by: Bambini di Praha; the Kuhn Chorus; Musica Bohemia; the Prague Orchestra; and the Czech Film Symphonic Orchestra.
Silent Night
2002 dir. Rodney Gibbons
This TV movie is based on a true story that took place during the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest, Christmas 1944. Frau Vincken and her son Fritz flee their home in the city for their hunting cabin in the woods during the fierce battles near the end of World War II. On Christmas Eve, so close to the front lines of battle, three American soldiers, lost in the woods, burst into the cabin looking to escape the snow. One of them is seriously wounded. Frau Vincken agrees to offer them hospitality as long as they lay down their weapons. The Americans agree to trust her until three German soldiers also arrive, seeking shelter! Frau Vincken convinces everyone to abide by one night of peace but it is one long, tension-filled Christmas Eve for everyone. And, what will happen on Christmas day when the soldiers have to leave the cabin?
The cast includes: Linda Hamilton as Frau Vincken; Matthew Harbour as Fritz; and Romano

My Interview with Author, Giselle Renarde
Author, Giselle Renarde, has two holiday stories out, Red Satin at Torquere Press and The Night Before Red Satin Christmas at Love You Divine
I found both stories to be rich not only with the holidays, but also in depth of character and the complexities of the plot. Giselle is an amazing writer with a lot to offer a reader. Her creativity seems endless, her ability to compose it into a tapestry of words which become diverse stories is nothing short of profound. There is an openness to her stories, a tell-it-all attitude that seems insightful and freeing. While getting caught up in the passionate dance of her couples you will also find yourself immersed in a world of new possibilities. Love is what the holidays are all about. And, love takes acceptance, right? In fact, Ms. Renarde’s dedication in the front of The Night Before Red Satin Christmas is “For everyone who thought they could never go home again.” So, if you want your romance with a strong story and a whole lot of sizzle, you must check out Giselle Renarde.
So, I am thrilled to have her here today to answer a few questions.
Kiki: “Every year, my dad buys us all pajamas for Christmas --that's his thing that he does --and we change into them and wear them for the rest of the day, even at dinner." ~Quote from Red Satin ~ In my family, my mom gives us all pajamas on the 24thth, young or old. So, this line in your story caught me, and leads me to a few questions. First, where did the idea for this line come from?
Giselle: I don’t think I’ve gone a year without receiving pajamas for Christmas. When I was younger, I used to get them from my aunts and my grandparents, and now they seem to be a recurring gift among siblings. To me, comfy pajamas are an inexorable part of the Christmas experience. Even now, I’m wearing the Christmas tree pajamas my mother gave me last year.
Kiki: So cool! I’m wearing my snowmen ones :) Do you have any tradition you look forward to over the holidays?
Giselle: Time with family is what I look forward to the most. My mother still lives in the house we “kids” grew up in, so there’s a great sense of going home every time we stay with her at Christmas. We spend Christmas at home, just our core family group, and it’s kind of like reliving childhood for one day. Our traditions are pretty generic (decorating the tree, hanging stockings, opening gifts, preparing and then eating a big turkey dinner) but the beauty of these traditions comes with doing them together as a family.
Kiki: And, as far as your writing life goes, what percentage of real life - details, setting, examples - fall into your writing?
Giselle: There’s a little bit of my life in all of my stories, especially in that they’re all set in Canada , but when it comes to the Red Satin series I’ve pretty much just plonked my life down on paper. Since we’ve been talking about family, I’ll admit that the warm, earthy, and accepting character of Maisie’s mom in The Night Before Red Satin Christmas is modeled very much on my own mother’s positive qualities. I’ll also admit that I infused the inattentive, workaholic, Blackberry-obsessed character Deb in my novella Only Angels with some of my mother’s negative attributes. (Shh…don’t tell her!) It’s amazing how, no matter how many people we meet in life, we always come back to family, even in writing.
Kiki: That is so true. Your characters have such complexity, they are so rich and diverse, shown by all the little details you add into the dialogue and descriptions. Do they just come to you, or do you work to create them, build them up?
Giselle: When I first started writing, I got all kinds of advice about how to build my characters. I was told to make up worksheets listing all their attributes, from their looks to their food allergies. Everything. Well, I don't do that. I’ve tried, to a certain degree, but I found writing like that didn’t work for me, primarily because my characters build my stories, I don’t. I know that sounds a little airy-fairy, but I really do feel my stories percolate in my unconscious and when I sit down to write that’s like pouring a cup of coffee. I can add to it if I wish, but the basic element, character, is already made.
Kiki: Where did the inspiration for Regan and Maisie come from, their relationships and their conflicts?
Giselle: Regan and Maisie, more than any other characters I’ve written, are based on my girlfriend and I. Like Maisie, my girlfriend is male-to-female transsexual, meaning she was born and raised male but feels in her heart that her body is not aligned with who she is on the inside, and she now identifies as a woman. The conversations about gender, identity, and safety she and Regan engage in throughout Red Satin are taken directly from life. Writing that story was a lot like dreaming about your day (except I’ll admit that we’ve never gone at it in a dress shop fitting room LOL). The Night Before Red Satin Christmas is a little more fanciful, and a lot less based on real life, but still sparked by conversations we’ve had about gender, relationship, and sex.
Kiki: Thanks for being so honest. I love to get “real” and “personal” answers. Details, obviously as I keep coming back to that word, are one thing I love about your writing. For example, “Garlands of evergreen boughs trimmed in thick, red ribbon hung above their heads. She pictured the little pinecones coming loose and falling into the French horn. What would a French horn sound like, full of pinecones?” ~Quote from Red Satin ~ This thought pattern is smart, funny, Christmasy…and serves to relive and build the emotional and sexual tension building in the story actually. There are many examples of this in the story, touches of the Christmas all around them. So, I must ask, if you don’t mind telling, how do you feel about the holidays?
Giselle: You know, I can’t recall what inspired that pinecone bit, but I have a suspicion it had to do with the décor at The Eaton Centre, our big touristy mall here in Toronto . The last time I was there, I noticed the Mrs Fields booth had one of those gigantic cookies that was iced with the words “Happy Birthday Maisie.” That can’t be a coincidence. ;-)
I’ve gone through phases of being down on the holidays, especially back when I worked in business and the commercialism of the occasion was much more glaring, but now that I’m settled into a cozy poor writer’s life I love the holidays. My girlfriend is a Christmas fanatic, and her enthusiasm has definitely rubbed off on me. So much so that I’ve even changed the colour scheme on my blog as I go for a month-long “Festive Frenzy” celebrating the holidays. I’m not an avid consumer, but I love giving those who are close to me meaningful gifts. And I know it sounds sappy, but it’s true: the greatest gift is time with those you love.
Thanks so much for having me, Kiki. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Linda Banche Reviews "A Darcy Christmas"
For Those Who Like Darcy in Their Christmas
Those who can't get enough of Pride and Prejudice will love A Darcy Christmas, a trio of Christmas novellas centering on Darcy and Elizabeth.
First is Carolyn Eberhart's Mr. Darcy's Christmas Carol, a retelling of Charles Dickens's classic story. While deliberating whether he should marry the unsuitableElizabeth , Darcy receives Christmas Eve visitations from three ghosts. Their dire revelations predict the terrifying depths to which his life will plunge if he turns his back on her love. And not just his life, but the lives of all those around him as well. Especially frightening is the Ghost of Christmas Future's prophecy. A powerful and chilling cautionary tale for the Christmas season.
Amanda Grange's Christmas Present follows Darcy and a very pregnant Elizabeth as they visit Jane, Bingley and the couple's infant son in their new house for Christmas. In a microcosm of Pride and Prejudice, most of that novel's players, whether by design or accident, show up. What starts out as a quiet celebration rapidly devolves into a free-for-all as the old family dynamics come into play. Not to be missed are the arrival of Lady Catherine de Bourgh and her pet clergyman, Mr. Collins. And Mr. Collins has a brother? And a handsome one at that? What is the world coming to? Amid the strained relations, Darcy and Elizabeth receive the best gift of all on Christmas Day. A very effective presentation of the Pride and Prejudice pantheon in a Christmas setting.
The books' title story, Sharon Lathan's A Darcy Christmas, consists of a series of short vignettes that chronicle Darcy's and Elizabeth's long and happy marriage through succeeding Christmases. This tour de force, lush with detailed descriptions and dripping with love of all kinds, provides a fascinating preview of her saga. I liked the first story the best. On the Christmas Eve before he marries her, a desperately lonely and confused Darcy dreams of the unacceptableElizabeth as his wife and the mother of their children. Is he in love with her? He can't be. Can he?
Merry Christmas to all Pride and Prejudice fans everywhere.

BLURB:
A man who sees mistletoe everywhere is mad--or in love.
Charles sees mistletoe. Not surprising, since he's spending Christmas at Mistletoe Manor. But why does no one else see it? And why does it always appear above Penelope, the despised lady who jilted him after their last meeting?
Penelope wants nothing to do with the faithless Charles, the man who cried off after she accepted his marriage proposal. But he still stirs her heart--and he stares at her all the time. Or rather, he stares at the empty ceiling over her head…What does he see?
According to folklore, mistletoe is the plant of peace. Can Penelope and Charles, so full of hurt and anger, heed the mistletoe's message and make peace?

My Interview with Selena Kitt - Plus Huge Giveaway
Today I am interviewing Selena Kitt who has three Christmas stories which contain elements of erotic horror and suspense releasing this December.
Avaialble Now at http://excessica.com/store |
Kiki: I read a lot of holiday stories, kind-of a junkie. And, I love it when genres I usually read like paranormal and suspense are included in them. How easy is it for you to mix the genres of suspense and horror with a holidays-themed story? Can you tell us what inspired these stories?
Selena: Suspense and horror are great at Christmas, because it makes such a wonderful juxtaposition. Take one warm fuzzy time of year, add something awful, resolve that element, and everyone lives happily ever after. (Well, sometimes…) What could be better? I’m a grumpy Scrooge on the surface with a big heart underneath, so really, it’s not hard to put that paradox into the work!
Kiki: I was going to ask you something like what Christmas means to you, but I thought maybe a word-association game would be more fun, and possibly more revealing :) So, write a word or phrase that comes to your mind after each.
Coming Dec 10th |
Selena:
Decorating the House – tangled Christmas lights
Christmas Shopping – Amazon.com
Wrapping Presents – paper cuts
Cookies - fattening
Egg Nog – even more fattening!
Mrs. Claus – The Year Without a Santa Claus
Snowmen – Brrr!
Kiki: Okay, back to Christmas stories again. Do you read them? And if so, do you have a favorite one you could recommend?
Selena: My favorite Christmas story is The Gift of the Magi. I read it to the kids every year.
Kiki: What about Holiday movies or Christmas TV specials? Are there ones it just does not feel like Christmas if you miss them?
Coming Dec 17th |
Selena: It’s a Wonderful Life is my all time favorite.
Kiki: Do you have a special holiday tradition? What about a special Christmas recipe you make every year?
Selena: We make sugar cookies every year – the kind you roll and cut. Then we frost and decorate them. The kids love it, and I used to do it with my mom, so it’s a tradition passed on.
Kiki: Last, I hear you have another great giveaway going on. Please share the details!

BK Walker Reviews "Angelfire" by Courtney Allison Moulton
Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton
Katherine Tegen Books an imprint of Harper Collins
REVIEW:
Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton is one of the best YA reads I've had the pleasure of reading. Action packed with her own twist on Spiritual Warfare, this is a MUST READ!
Ellie Monroe thought that she had the normal teenage life - friends, parties, school, family and boys. That is until she meets the gorgeous and mysterious Will.
Ellie has repeated nightmares from her past, about fighting and conquering monsters, and as Will tries to convince Ellie that she yields the power to prevent a war between Heaven and Hell, she thinks he is absolutely crazy.
Will has stood by Ellie for 500 years, and each time she dies she is reborn into another mortal body. During this rebirth though, Ellie's memories fail to return as quickly as they usually do, but she gets pieces of it through her dreams. Now Ellie must put her trust into the one man she thinks has lost his mind.
When a reaper threatens to raise the one demonic creature that could destroy her very soul, Ellie and Will fight side by side to save human souls along with her own.
Lying to her family and friends, Ellie tries to accept what and who she is, what her mission is all the while trying to fight for the love she feels for Will and save the world.
From the first page Angelfire was full of keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your- seat action. Moulton did a fantastic job with this title, the plot was perfect, the characters were brilliant, and it was a great twist on good vs. evil with a touch of romance.
I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it as one of the best reads of the year. I give Angelfire ****** (6) Stars

Special Holiday Announcement
I go nuts this time of year reading every Holiday story I can get my hands on, and well, also find the time to read. With that in mind, I would like to host those with Holiday releases over the next few weeks. So authors, if you would like to be interviewed or post a review of a holiday story you've read and loved to promote your own holiday story, please contact me at authorsbyauthors@gmail.com Remember, at ABA, if you post a review of a story your cover with link goes up on the sidebar - free advertising for the month of December - as well as your information as reviewer at the bottom of the review! Have another promo idea for your holiday story, let me know. I'm open to anything festive this month.
And, when I say "holiday", I mean any holiday in the month of December. We celebrate a few of them in my house :) I would love to see Hannukah and Yule stories, etc. as well as Christmas tales!

My Review of "edging past reality" by David A Fingerman
Review:
If you like bizarre twists, never quite knowing what is coming next, horrific surprises…then the anthology, edging past reality by David A Fingerman will be a collection of short stories you will enjoy. I personally have a thing for such dark tales.
I was initially caught by the division of the collection, with the stories divided into sections by age: “Too Young To Know Any Better,” Old Enough To Know Better,” Is This A Mid-Life Crisis?” and “Senior Moments.” I just love that wit of it which I found continued throughout the collection in many dark, spellbinding, surprising forms.
Of course, as with all anthologies, there are stories a reader likes better than others. With this collection, (I must be young at heart, LOL, as they were in the younger sections), “Mosquito Tim” and “Peeping Tom” stood out to me. Both stories had a savage idea of redemption about them which made me smile in a quite devious way :)
Product Description:
Get ready to expect the unexpected when you read this collection of chilling short storiesThe short stories of Edging Past Reality will take you to the precipice of reason and then push you over the edge.
If you think you can always believe your eyes, and you're sure that what you believe is true, it's time to check your certainties at the door ... and start Edging Past Reality. In this collection of short stories, as you're warned in the introduction, ''the most common and familiar elements of life ... explode into a circus of horror.'' Imagine an inviting, lush meadow that turns shockingly deadly. A mirror that holds more than mere reflections. A trial where your life hangs by a call-in vote.
David Fingerman, a master of the unforeseen and unpredictable, will take you on a number of seemingly ordinary journeys and then smoothly veer off course, surprising you with twists and turns that propel you toward destinations that are not only unexpected, but often terrifying.

INTERVIEW WITH LISA BURKE: FRIDAY FAVORITES
Favorite Genre(s): I love literary fiction… and I also love the Beat authors.
List of at least 5 Favorite Books in that Genre:
On The Road, Jack Kerouac
The Diaries of Franz Kafka, Franz Kafka
Lolita, Vladimir Nabokov
Nausea, Jean Paul Sarte
Little Woman, Louisa May Alcott
Favorite Author in that Genre, and Favorite Book by that Author: I love Vladimir Nabokov, though I haven’t read enough of his prolific writings. For a man whose native tongue is Russian, he puts most of us to shame with his impressive capacity of the English vocabulary. He often concocts plots that revolve around very unique (and fascinating) romantic relationships – the most famous of which is, of course, Lolita. I’d say that’s my favorite of his books.
Favorite Book of All Time: It may actually be Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. That woman can turn one paragraph about a small girl knitting into a thoroughly riveting passage. I generally get a bit bored with the pre-19th century habit of over-description, but she’s got the adjectives, similes, and solid, developed characters to keep me rapt, every page.
Favorite Book Read Last Month: I am *way* behind in my reading, but the last book I’ve (almost) finished reading is the “The Mystery of Lewis Carroll” by Jenny Woolf.
Favorite Book You Wrote: My favorite book is the first one I wrote, called “The Invisible Visitor”. I consider it my “baby”. I doubt I’ll write another like it, because I never thought it would see a printed page. Because I was so uninhibited, I took a lot of literary risks, including: using a mass of curse words, discussing touchy religious topics and incorporating spooky paranormal plot lines. These topics are fun to write, but a little uncomfortable when your friend’s mother wants to read your latest.
Give Us One More Favorite Thing Beyond Books: Good food, sleeping and lazy contented days with good company – these are the things that make me happy.
“Thunder Destroys Me” by Lisa Burke Blurb: Why are there so many people in bed with Charles and Lucy? Don’t worry, they’re only figments of Charles’ imagination. “Thunder Destroys Me” is a dark, unconventional novel about the agony of jealousy. Join Charles, the ugly, ill-mannered accountant, in his struggle to change his image in order to get the girl of his dreams. Watch him fight the evil Mind Militia, who attack him with messages of doom and hateful judgments. This illuminating story, complete with intriguing characters and scandalous surprises, will make you reassess what you think about thoughts.
