Romancing Your Dark Side Tour Week: Kristie Cook Interviews A. Jacob Sweeny

This is Kristie Cook, author of Promise and the Soul Savers Series, interviewing A. Jacob Sweeney, author of Pulse of Heroes and the Pulse series.

About the Book, Pulse of Heroes:

Pulse of Heroes weaves together elements from several different genres: romance, suspense, myth/fantasy, paranormal, history and at its core, a heroine’s journey and transformation.

Michelle used to feel like she was behind in everything, especially relationships. Her great aunt says she is like a bland meal, "no salt or pepper". But in junior year, everything changes. Her father takes a position on the Town Council, a popular boy in school is interested in her, and most importantly, the Hekademos Learning Center, a private school for 'troubled' students, moves into her quiet neighborhood amidst the protests of the entire town.

Upon seeing the School Regent out with a group of young guys just before Christmas, Michelle is convinced that there is something odd about them. Her curiosity gets the better of her and she embarks upon a mission to figure out what is really going on. After an embarrassing fall over the school  wall, Michelle meets Elliot and her ordinary 'bland' life changes its course forever.

Elliot is no ordinary human. No one at the Hekademos Learning Center is. Beautiful and fierce, they have survived throughout the millennia by weaving in and out of human events. Although Elliot carries numerous painful memories from his many pasts, he disregards his own better judgment and the advice of his friends, and finds himself falling for Michelle's offbeat personality.

At Elliot's side, Michelle must learn to deal with the bundle of contradictory emotions called love, But when History catches up with them, the difference between their life paths threatens to destroy any future that they might have had together. Ultimately, Michelle will have to trust her intuition in order to face the danger and uncertainty of being drawn into Elliot's wondrous world.

About the Author, A. Jacob Sweeny:

A. Jacob Sweeny holds a degree in History with an emphasis on Ancient Near East. Her immersion in world myths and her archaeological fieldwork provided the initial spark that led to the development of Pulse Of Heroes. Besides writing, A. Jacob Sweeny is a strong advocate for the protection of women and children worldwide. She enjoys cooking spicy food and regularly suffers from bouts of creative insomnia.

And now onto the interview!

KC: Pulse of Heroes is already out and you’re working on The Pulse, book 2, right now. When will it be released? How many books do you plan for the series?
AJS: The Pulse will be available by October 31st 2011

KC: Of all of your characters, who would you most like to have dinner with and why?
AJS: Elliot. Because he is so intense in his views and knowledge, not to mention passions ;-) I would like to experience someone as intense as him. I have met many intense women, but unfortunately not many intense men.

KC: What do you think is Michelle’s greatest strength? Her biggest flaw?
AJS: Michelle’s ability to learn and love are her greatest strengths. He flaws are her rash emotional feelings, but I believe that it is more her age rather than a flaw. She is young and she is learning. She is also very stubborn, which is good in some situations and bad in others.

KC: What are Elliott’s greatest strength and biggest flaw?
AJS: Elliot’s capacity to understand people and especially Michelle is amazing. That he can remove his own personal agenda and look at the facts is simply fascinating. His weakness is in the way he can shut out the whole world and believe that he needs nothing from it. But I think this is the weakness that all his kind suffers.

KC: Do you have any other projects in the works?
AJS: In the back back of my mind I have another screenplay. A mystery romance suspense

KC: When is your favorite time to write?
AJS: When the house is clean and everything is done and I am alone.

KC: What must you have nearby while writing – food, drink, music, pets?
AJS: My dog gets fed up with me while I write so definitely not her. I feel guilty because I am not interacting with her. My cats might sleep next to me. I listen to music often while writing.

KC: What are you reading right now or what is the book you read most recently?
AJS: I am not reading any fiction at the moment, but last book I read was Lullaby by Chuck Palahnuik about 4 months ago.

KC: What do you read for inspiration? What authors or books inspire you most?
AJS: No one inspires me than William Shakespeare and the beautiful verses of the Bible. My other favorite to turn to is actually JM Barrie’s Peter Pan- one of the world’s most underrated books-it’s brilliant!

KC: What do you do just for fun – for an escape from your world?
AJS: I love going on Archaeological digs- talk about escaping :) I love nature and music.

KC: If money and time were no object, where is the next place you’d like to travel?
AJS: I’d love to go to Iran and Iraq. Turkey Syria and Greece.

KC: If you could time travel, what’s the first time period you’d visit?
AJS: I would love to visit ancient Sumeria and see the great step pyramids in their glory while drinking beer at one of the inns. about 2300 BCE

Thank you, AJ, for allowing me to interview you. How come I’m not surprised with those last couple of answers? ;-) Pulse of Heroes sounds fascinating and I can’t wait to read it.

Any questions for A. Jacob Sweeny? It’s your turn now!

  5. Pulse of Heroes sound like an incredible read. Thank you so much for sharing with us today. I have a great love for the middle east and dream of retiring in Egypt. I was able to climb the inside of Giza and drank the water from the Nile - so they say I will definitely return. Maybe we will pass each other in our adventures.
