This interview was conducted by Jaz Primo, author of  Sunrise at Sunset,  and he is interviewing BK Walker, author of Night Secrets

Hello, everyone, and welcome to Authors by Authors during Romancing Your Dark Side Paranormal Blog Tour Week. Our guest today is paranormal author BK Walker. She's the author of no less than five novels, the latest of which is a thriller titled "Night Secrets," which was just published in July of this year.

Hello, BK, and thank you for taking part in the interview with me today. It's a sincere pleasure to have the opportunity to learn more about you. While many of our readers may have had the opportunity to read one of your novels, I'm sure that everyone is aware that you lead quite a busy life apart from novel-writing. You expertly manage a primary website, B.K. Walker Book Reviews, as well as no less than four additional independent blog sites. And as if that weren't enough for even the most energetic people, you also conduct a series of regular web-based book review blog radio interviews on blogtalkradio.com. Finally, you're the creator and organizing force behind the current aggressive promotional endeavor known as the Romancing Your Dark Side Paranormal Blog Tour, which includes myself and five other authors.

My first question for you today has to be: Where and how do you manage to find the time and energy to support each of your writing, blogging, promotional touring, and interviewing endeavors?

I have a schedule Jaz. Though sometimes it's not easy, I must admit, I always have a schedule that I look at and pencil things in each and everyday. This even includes baseball games for my boys, spending time with the kids, going to see my mother and even hanging out with my friends. My entire life is scheduled each day.

In the short time that I have had the pleasure to interact with you, it has become apparent that you are a dynamic, sincere, and organized person. Please reveal three additional qualities or tidbits  that most readers or fellow authors don't  know about you, but that you would like for them to know.

I love going for mountain rides and just being surrounded by the beauty and peace of the mountains. I love horses, and used to ride all the time, and then taught riding lessons and even did horse training on occasion. Heh - I have a tendency to see dead people. Now there is one that I bet nobody saw coming lol.

Who were your heroes/heroines when you were a young girl growing up? Are they the same for you as an adult? If not, who are your heroes/heroines today?

Superman for sure. I just loved everything about him as a kid. Now, I would have to say it my dad. He is so supportive in all I do, and though he's my stepfather, I feel as though he's always been a part of my life.

  

Please tell us some of your favorite authors and novels, as well as the authors or novels who have inspired you as a writer.

My favorite author right now is Tina Folsom. Her world of vampires and "grab me some ice" erotica mix is just phenomenal. I love her writing style and she knows how to tell a fantastic story!

Nora Roberts is a huge inspiration. I've always loved her work.

  

What are your guilty pleasures when it comes to snacks and/or beverages? Do you find yourself gravitating to any of them when reading or writing?

I love Pepsi and Lindor White Chocolate! YUMMO! Pepsi or coffee is what I NEED when I write lol.

  

What settings or locations are the most peaceful and relaxing to you for (1) reading, and (2) writing?

My couch with a hot cup of coffee or cappacino. A fireplace is awesome too though I don't have one...someday though.

The Romancing Your Dark Side Paranormal Blog Tour has to be one of the most enterprising and expansive group-based publicity tours that I have seen in quite some time. I noticed in a brief website bio that you are skilled in organizing virtual book tours. Where did you get the idea or inspiration for this tour, and how do you feel about the progress of the project thus far?

To be honest, I've never toured with one of my own books before. I'm a big fat chicken so I didn't want to go it alone, but I really wanted to tour with Night Secrets. So with the help of my good friend Cynthia, over at Book Reader Addicts, she helped me organize a multi-author tour and I think it's going great! Readers and hosts have been so receptive and nice and I'm so happy to be on tour with all of you. It's fun getting to know each of you more and you are all so talented!

  

As an author, what are the primary catalysts in your creative process? What drives your creative juices?

Dreams! I often dream scenes, or characters. My muse likes when this happens too and won't let me alone until I've written it all down. It may be for a current book I'm writing or something completely different, but most of my ideas come from dreams.

Please tell us a little about your latest novel, Night Secrets, and how the characters and storyline came to fruition.

Well, what came to me in a dream for this was the opening scene of a plane crash, then I felt the suffering of a young girl as her parents died in this crash. Then as the dream went on, I saw this girl facing the turmoil inside of her and not having a clue as to what was happening. She learns later that she comes from a fey lineage and is in fact a shapeshifter, and her future had been foretold long ago. Her father tried protecting from this magical world, but after his death it hits her full force.

As she learns about herself and her heritage, she meets a vampire and a werewolf, falling in love with one, while the other falls in love with her. I had to have a villain in this though or what kind of love story would it be right? So we also have a deranged twin brother, vampire also, that tries to kill her repeatedly.

Are there any final thoughts that you would like to share before we close? Or perhaps, is there anything that you would like to say to our readers?

About The Book, Sunrise at Sunset:

We vampires are focused and tend to shape our own realities. My name is Katrina Rawlings, and I am a vampire. I declare that with neither pride nor ego. I am simply nature's most dangerous predator. On occasion, it's a very valuable quality. It helped me protect Caleb Taylor one day when he was very young. But that single, traumatic day is behind him now; wiped from his memory, or so I hope. Caleb has finally matured into a rather striking young man, and believe me, I like what I see. I'll readily admit that there are issues for us to confront and overcome, though a sense of mutual commitment isn't one of them. I'm feeling hopeful for our future together, in fact. But an adversary from my past has returned to haunt me, and she's trying to get back at me through Caleb. That was her first...and last...mistake. I'll protect my Caleb at all costs, and I'll make her regret the day she was born. So, I suppose that I'm not just a vampire. I'm about to become someone's worst nightmare!

The Interview:

1) What does your writing routine look like?

Um, total chaos, actually. *grinning* My writing routine has always been somewhat erratic, which is strange because I consider myself a really organized person; bordering on OCD. I realize that the proper technique is to set aside a daily regimented time to write. However, I still find that I write "when I can," which is typically around other obligations. The vast majority of my writing opportunities occur during the weekends.

2) If I was stalking you, where would I find you most often?

Well, if you were stalking me, I wouldn't tell you! *wink* Actually, you'd likely find me either in my office or classroom at the community college where I work full-time, or perched before a computer in my "retreat" at home. Now, my question is: If you WERE a stalker, and you knew what I just told you, wouldn't you merely grow bored and stop stalking me? *smirking* Yeah, I thought so.

3) What character has been the hardest to write so far? Easiest?

The hardest character to write so far has been the vampire Alton because he's so mysterious. He's always working on multiple objectives simultaneously and is frequently hedgy regarding his plans and motivations. Conveying a sense of mystery to the reader in a balanced manner that is both intriguing and meaningful can sometimes be challenging. The easiest character to write has been the vampire Katrina. Her nearly-benevolent love for Caleb and protective nature makes it very easy to determine what her primary concerns or agendas will be. At the same time, she's almost like a superhero, like Xena or Wonder Woman, so it's relatively easy to convey her self-assured and commanding personality.

4) If your book hit the big screen, who would play your characters best?

Are you saying there's a manuscript floating around out there for Sunrise at Sunset?! That's awesome! *pausing* You're just toying with me, aren't you? *sighing with my arms folded before me* Well, IF my novel was a film, I suppose that Alton would be played by either Gerard Butler or Colin Firth. Caleb could be played by either Max Irons or Josh Hutcherson. I can't think of any actresses that would be a good fit for Katrina or Paige. 

5) What songs would the film version's soundtrack include?

The soundtrack would include a number of songs mentioned in Sunrise at Sunset. Garbage's "Temptation Awaits" and "You Look So Fine", Gram Rabbit's "Devil's Playground", Muse's "Map of the Problematique", Poe's "Angry Johnny", Radiohead's "Karma Police", Mogwai's "Auto Rock", Jem's "Come on Closer" and "24", Portishead's "Sour Times", and Hole's "Malibu." Those are songs that I repeatedly played while writing specific segments in the novel.

6) What genre would you be least likely to ever write in?

Poetry.

7) Have you ever had a paranormal experience in real life?

Yes. When I was a teenager, I came home from school and distinctly heard my Mom call my name in the house. I went through the entire house only to discover that I was completely alone! I called my grandma, who lived nearby, and discovered that my Mom was there visiting with her. Upon further query, Mom said that she had just been talking about me at length, which coincided with the time that I had heard my name being called. Weird, huh?

8) What do you do to recharge your writing batteries?

I like to listen to music, watch films, and generally do things that don't have anything to do with creative writing. My imagination usually "wakes up" on its own during such respites, which reenergizes me for more writing.

9) What is one thing sure to trip you up while writing?

You mean, aside from an impending tornado? Phone calls.

10) If you had a magic writing wand, what would you use it for?

*Laughing heartily* I'd use it to write novels that literally everyone wanted to read! *pausing* You know, I'd also use it to reveal the true answers to all the questions that people have asked for years, such as: Why do bad things happen to good people? Is there really a God? If there is a God, is He or She pissed off that religions take His or Her name in vain to do horrible things to innocent people? What is the cure for all cancers? Is there intelligent life in the universe on other planets besides Earth? What did actually happen to Amelia Earhart? Why does time seem to go faster when you're having fun? *pausing* Hey, going back to that God stuff...is God male or female?! Okay, so maybe that should be higher on my list. Damn, I'm really bad at this!
